Digitalisation of the Assyriology slide collection

Project aim
To digitalise the slide collections of the department of the languages and Cultures of the Middle East. Lectures are normally backed up by slide show material, but students do not have good access to these visual resources afterwards. As a result, it is difficult for students to complete individual assignments that are related to these slides. The department has a well documented slide collection at its disposal consisting of ca. 1000 slides. The data (metadata) about the slides have been inputted in a File Maker Pro 6.2 database (Mac-version).

Project output
The use of digital material will provide new opportunities and changes to improve the quality of education and research. It will enlarge the quantitative and qualitative availability of visual material for students.
Additionally, chances for new ways of education in the master, that are based on the interactive use of visual resources, can be advanced. Last but not least, the creation of preconditions to stimulate international cooperation and to support further use of digital material is also an important objective.

Project partner
Partners in this project are the Free University of Amsterdam , Gent, Leuven, Münster and  Heidelberg. Münster has a rather large archaeological slide collection, and due to recent consults about this initiative, Münster will  develop a similar project. The collections are complementary. The other partners will be approached on short terms about a similar type of cooperation.
