Network Agreement

Statement of Objectives

Recognising the mutual benefits to be gained through a co-operative program promoting scholarly activities and international understanding, the League members enter into this Agreement of Academic Co-operation and agree to the following:


OBJECTIVES
1.1 Activities which are carried out under this Agreement will focus on the area of Non-Western Studies.

1.2 The objectives of this Agreement shall include, but not be limited to, the following:

a. the exchange of students;
b. the exchange of research and/or teaching personnel;
c. the organisation of joint academic and scientific activities, such as courses, conferences, seminars, symposia or lectures;
d. the development of collaborative research projects and
e. the exchange of publications and other materials of common interest.

IMPLEMENTATION
2.1 In order to carry out and fulfil the aims of this Agreement, the League members shall each appoint a co-ordinator who shall manage the development and conduct of joint activities.

2.2 Specific details of Student / Staff- and Student Exchange shall be specified in a supplemental Student / Staff- and Student Exchange Agreement which, upon signing by the appropriate authority at each institution, shall become an integral part of this Agreement. The Student / Staff- and Student Exchange Agreement shall include such matters as: the level and number of student to be exchanged, academic requirements and credit transfer, and the financial responsibilities of each party.

2.3 The terms of staff exchange shall be mutually discussed and agreed upon in writing by all parties prior to the initiation of that activity. Unless otherwise agreed upon, the host university shall not bear any financial responsibility for visiting staff.

DURATION AND TERMINATION
3.1 This Agreement shall become effective on the date that it is signed by the League member and shall be valid for a period of five years, but may be renewed or extended by mutual consent.

3.2 This Agreement may be terminated by any League member, at any time provided that the terminating Party gives written notice of its intention at least six months prior to termination.

07.02.08 New e-learning projects

The ELNWS and the Faculty of Arts of Leiden University have agreed to provide funding for a number of specific study fields to stimulate international cooperation projects using ICT tools. The corresponding call for proposals was received with great enthusiasm. It resulted in the selection of seven new projects that will be completed this year (2008).
